Durgapur is an industrial city in the state of West Bengal, India, located about 160 km from Kolkata.
Durgapur is well connected via roads. It is also connected with rails to major parts of India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Ahmadabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Nagpur etc.
In case of unavailability of direct trains to Durgapur, one can easily take a train to Howrah or Asansol and then reach Durgapur by trains or buses. Express and mail trains and couple of intercity express trains ply between Kolkata and Durgapur on a regular basis. Buses from West Bengal state transport corporation as well as , ac or Volvo buses can be availed to travel from Kolkata to Durgapur and vice versa. The travel is extremely comfortable in both modes.
Nearest airport is at Dumdum, Netaji Subhash International airport.
Within the city of Durgapur, bus, auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are the most common modes of transport.
NIT DGP is situated about 8 kms from the Durgapur railway station. Regular buses ply from the station direct to NIT. Taxis and auto rickshaws may be availed too.

Taxis: Rs 130
Auto rickshaws: Rs 90
In case you reach Durgapur by changing a train or bus from Kolkata or some other nearby district, the main bus stand of Durgapur lies just 1 km away from NIT, in City Centre, the shopping hub of the city.
Again buses, rickshaws, and auto-rickshaws may be availed to reach NIT from the bus stand.
The transport network of the city is quite efficient, convenient as well as comfortable.
